We are in this together….

Like it or not!

We may not like it but there are things we must do during this pandemic to protect ourselves and others.

Let’s start with face masks. The CDC is recommending that we should be wearing a face mask any time we go to the grocer, pharmacies, or places where social distancing is hard to practice. This being the case we need to talk about some face mask cleaning suggestions. First, if you are making yours at home it has been suggested that you use tightly woven 100% cotton. Avoid knit fabrics such as jersey T-shirts. For added protection use a nonwoven interface, coffee filter etc. Buying or making it at home we need to keep in mind that keeping face masks clean is especially important.

  • Fabric face masks should be cleaned and routinely washed depending on the frequency of use.

  • A washing machine will do in properly washing most face coverings.

  • It has been suggested that all face masks should be washed with hot water in the washing machine, and tumble dried on high heat. Delicate masks that are hand sewn may need to be washed by hand with soap and scrubbing them for at least 20 seconds.

You should be careful not to touch eyes, nose, and mouth when removing your face covering and wash hands immediately. There are differing reports on whether or not coronavirus can live on clothes. The disease is more likely to live on hard surfaces. We will have more useful cleaning information to come.
