So this is not FAKE advice it's simply a tip for cleaning odd things.

Let's start with those unidentified spots on your carpet. If you are not going to clean the entire house try this. Using a spray bottle with a solution of one part white vinegar mixed with two parts water spray the spot well. Now put a damp cloth over the spot and using your steam iron on the steam setting iron the spot for thirty or forty seconds. That should do it. However, if not repeat the process. If you know the spot to be oil based try sprinkling baking soda on the stain while letting it absorb for at least ten minutes. Now mix a tablespoon of vinegar, a tablespoon of clear dish washing liquid and a cup and one half with warm water. Using a white cotton cloth sponge the area until you've absorbed the solution. Now wipe the spot with cold water and blot it dry.
