How to clean your patio deck…

Without leaving a sour taste.

Let’s start by taking everything you hidden over the months from under the deck. First, sweep the deck clean. Now using the garden hose spray and soak the deck. From your local hardware store buy a sodium percarbonate or Oxygen bleach. (Often abbreviated as SPC.) This solution works very well on stains, mildew, algae, mold, etc. Using a long-handled brush and solution start scrubbing with the grain from the top working downward. Rinse well.

Let the deck dry a day or so and check for any stains the cleaning has revealed. Use the same solution on any you find and rinse again. Do not use cleaners such as Chlorine bleach. It is dangerous and has been listed as a hazardous air pollutant. Now would be a good time to decide if spring would present an opportunity to re-stain that old deck.
