Things we don’t clean often enough….

But should.

Let’s start with our toothbrush. Oh come on you know you never clean your toothbrush, but there are a million reasons you should. Millions of bacteria as an example. Ok, do this simply pour a few tablespoons of whiter vinegar in a glass and let the toothbrush sit for thirty minutes. Some do the same with a mouthwash it works and smells much better. Keep the toothbrush in something like a drawer or cabinet to keep airborne bathroom bacteria away.

Remote control: You will need a microfiber cloth, cotton swabs, a toothbrush, and a combo of water and rubbing alcohol. First, remove the batteries. Using a disinfectant wipe go over the entire phone with a dry toothbrush and brush away any debris around the buttons. Starting at the top working down. Dip the cloth in the water-alcohol combo ring it out well and wipe from down from the top. Use a cotton swab dabbed in the 50/50 mix and wipe around the buttons again. Replace the batteries and whallah….all clean.

Clean Air Vents: These not only get grimy, but also can harbor harmful bacteria. So do this. If you cannot remove the vent spray it with something like 409 then using a table knife wrap a clean cloth around the blade and insert the knife in the vents wiping side to side. Adjust the cloth as needed using a clean surface to continue wiping. It’s that simple.

Outdoor Bar-B-Q: Easy/breezy….just pour a cup or so of ammonia in a garbage bag. Then put the grates in the bag and seal it. Tie a knot at the top of the bag sealing it tight. The fumes loosen the junk on the grates so tight is important. Let the grates soak overnight. The next day when opening the bag be careful the fumes can make your eyes water and seem like they take your breath away. While you have the bag open use a bristle brush to brush the grate. They will look brand new. Dump the ammonia down a sink while the water is running. You’re ready to bar-b-q.

The dog: If you have a laundry tub it’s a good place to start. If not use the bathroom tub. In either case, a dog will likely be more relaxed if you fill the tub half full with warm water. To prevent your pet from slip/sliding put a towel in the bottom of the tub before you put in the water. If Shep is skittish use a treat to help calm him down. Using a baby shampoo mixed with some water suds up his body. When clean, rinse thoroughly with warm water and gently wipe his face and ears with a damp cloth. Dry with a towel, and if he is a longhaired dog you can try to blow dry him with a hairdryer…Dogs do not usually make friends with blow dryers, but you can give it a try on low.
